Typically, each cycle only has a few good eggs available with the potential to develop into a baby. In other words, unless you are very young, healthy, and one of the fortunate ones to have many excellent quality embryos which are destined to become healthy delivered babys, whether you ended up with 4 eggs or 40 eggs from an in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer cycle, the number of viable embryos with this ability is usually only a few. Another way of stating the same is that you can not steal or develop eggs from a future cycle or from past groups of eggs, only what were recruited for that particular cycle 2 months earlier.

Embryo Freezing—Cryopreservation (Vitrification): We have used this newer process in our center since the beginning of 2007 and have found it to be highly successful as pregnancy rates have been surprisingly high compared to other embryo freezing techniques.

Egg Cryopreservation thru Vitrification is also a newer technology which provides us with the ability now to freeze eggs effectively for thaw later for use in an embryo transfer cycle without having to do the entire ovulation induction, egg retrieval cycle. If you have cancer and will undergo radiation or chemotherapy which may damage your eggs, you can have them frozen for future cycles. In addition, if you have severe endometriosis or very low ovarian reserve at a young age and don’t plan on having a partner or raising children for several years to come, you can freeze and store your eggs so you will eventually have your own young eggs available to be fertilized and implanted later on. This provides you with pregnancy rates and low miscarriage rates of an individual of whatever age you had them retrieved at.
